Troubleshooting

Fixes for common problems — files that won't open, offline server tools, slow OCR, text that looks different and downloads on iPhone.

The PDF won't open

  • Password-protected? MyPDF asks for the password. If it doesn't, try again, and check that server tools are online (bottom of the right-hand column, or Help → About).
  • Damaged file? Try opening it in another viewer. If it works there, tell us which device and browser you used.
  • Not really a PDF? Files saved as .pdf from some apps are images or Word files. For images, use Images → PDF.

My downloaded PDF asks for a password or won't open

Many official forms, such as immigration, tax and bank forms, are locked by their publisher. They open without a password but are still encrypted. Since version 0.3.3, MyPDF removes that lock when you open the file, and checks every download before saving it, so this no longer happens.

A file downloaded from an older version can't be repaired. Open the original form in MyPDF again and redo your changes. The new download opens normally, with no password. If the server is briefly offline, MyPDF won't download a broken file. It tells you to try again instead.

“Server tools are offline”

Editing still works, but OCR, compression, conversion, password tools and redaction need the server. Wait a minute and try again. If it continues, let us know. Redaction is never silently skipped: MyPDF warns you before downloading if it can't remove the content.

OCR or conversion is slow

These jobs take a few seconds per page and run one at a time so the service stays fast for everyone. For very long scans, split the document first or run OCR on the pages you need. Files up to 100 MB are accepted.

Edited text looks a little different

The original font often can't be reused, so MyPDF chooses the closest standard font and matches the size, weight and colour. If a line looks out of place, edit the whole line or paragraph so the style is consistent, or change the font in Properties.

I can't click on text to edit it

  • Make sure Edit Text is selected (press E).
  • Scanned pages have no text. Run OCR first.
  • Rotated or vertical text can't be edited in place yet. White it out and add a new text box instead.

My download didn't appear (iPhone / iPad)

Safari may show a download icon in the address bar, or ask what to do with the file. Choose Download, then find the file in the Files app under Downloads. If a pop-up blocker is on, allow downloads from app.mypdf.live.

I lost my changes

MyPDF doesn't store your work. Changes stay only while the tab is open. Download regularly when working on long documents. MyPDF warns you before you close a tab with unsaved changes.
